17/52 Big, the Traveling Man in Deep Ellum

16/52 Fresh air and sunshine is good for you

I had to take a day trip for a business meeting on Monday so i took my camera along hoping to find something to photograph on my way home. I saw a safe place to pull off the road and took pictures of the bluebonnets, an old sign and the evening primroses. There were lots of yellow butterflies flitting around, too but I could catch one being still long enough for me to focus.

first thing in the morning. It was foggy outside and there was still dew on the grass (I mean weeds)

No ordinary lettuce and tomato salad for me. I throw as many vegetables as I can find into there.

Geese at dusk
I went to our local park and set up my tripod all set to catch pictures of the sunset over the pond. While I waited, I took pictures of the ducks, the geese, the people fishing, etc. The sunset was quite blah but I like my two geese friends who were close enough for me to use my flash.

my sweet man's hands. He really does have a lot of patience to do this for me. He walked in the door as I was attempting to take pictures of my hands holding my cell phone. (I've also posted that one) He wanted to know what in the world I was doing and so I asked him to pose for me.

9/52 Looking glass-a reflection

These two young women are my daughters. This week causes me to do some reflecting. Karen (in black) is turning 30 on the 28th. When each of them was born, I dreamed that they would be happy and become whatever they wanted to be. I did my best to let them be themselves. They make my heart swell with pride. Not only are they beautiful on the outside but they are smart, funny, independent and such joys to be around. We celebrated on Saturday night and I took this photo. I found this quote that seems appropriate for this week's theme and tying this picture to it.

"The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.”

These were on the tree outside of Starbucks yesterday where I had to stop and buy a brownie. Really, I needed that brownie.

2/52 Grandma's dishes

2/52 Grandma's dishes, originally uploaded by dettaowens.

Coming to you straight from my kitchen studio one more week. Of course, they have a story. In October, 1977, my grandmother died. I got married on Dec 10 of that year. My grandfather died on Dec 12. I was the first of the grandchildren to be married. My husband and I were very poor and very young. My dad and my uncles told us we could have anything we wanted from the house. We took most of the furniture as we had nothing. I also took these dishes. I no longer have the furniture, of course. However, these dishes are in my kitchen cabinet and every time I open it up and see them, I am reminded of my grandparents and feel their love. They may not be here any more but their legacy lives on.

not like all the others 1/52

not like all the others 1/52, originally uploaded by dettaowens.

It is 2012 and time for another project 52. Here we go with week one. The theme is resolution. I plan to find a quote to go with each theme this year. I saw this on Pinterest and can't find a source but love how it relates to resolution.

"Do not be like all the others, darling."
